Common questions

The questions readers actually arrive with, answered from the instruments themselves. Where the law is silent, or where a figure is set administratively rather than by statute, this page says so rather than filling the gap.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Answered from the instruments, including where they are silent

Where the law does not say, this page says that rather than filling the gap with a figure from somewhere else.

HOW THESE ANSWERS ARE MADE

Every answer above is a reading of a named instrument

Traffic-penalty questions attract confident answers, and most of them are copied from each other rather than from a statute. This is the method behind the ones on this site, so that you can judge them.

Every figure on this site is transcribed from a primary instrument — the Road Traffic Act and the Parking Places Act as revised, and the rules, orders and notifications made under them — and each one carries the provision it came from, beside it, on the page where it renders. Where a figure is not transcribed but worked out, the site says so and shows the arithmetic, because a derived number and a sourced number are not the same kind of claim and should not look alike.

Where the instruments are silent, the answer above says they are silent. That happens more often here than a reader might expect, and once it happens on the very question this market asks most: what the composition sum actually is. Several of the answers on this page therefore end in a boundary rather than a number, and each of those boundaries is itself sourced — it is a finding about what an instrument does, not a note about what we could not find.

What is deliberately not here

There is no fine lookup on this site, no payment step, and no appeal submission. Those are transactions between you and an agency, and building an imitation of one would be both useless and dangerous. Nothing here asks for an identity number, a driving licence number, a vehicle registration number, a notice number or a date of birth, and nothing here ever will.

The figures are also unsigned. They are transcribed and cited, but nobody has yet signed them off as this site’s reviewer of record, and the notice at the foot of every page says so plainly. If a rule changed recently it may not be reflected here yet. Read the cited provision before relying on anything on this site for a decision that matters.

WHERE TO GO INSTEAD

The questions this site cannot answer, and who can

Anything about your particular notice — what you owe, whether it has been paid, whether an explanation was accepted — belongs to the agency that issued it.

Every figure is sourced to a named provision of a named instrument, with the citation beside it.
